Pillows Out Of A Table Runner
Hi Friends!
Going the thrifty route for Christmas decor, I got this idea from Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick, after reading her post on how to easily make a pillow from a table runner. This year my decorations are frugal, from garage sale ornaments or by reusing what I have from previous years. You know how thrifty I am and I love it! Can you believe that I was able to make 3 pillows for the living room sofa, out of a dining room doubled sided table runner? For only $9.99, the price of the runner. This project is super easy and fast!
The doubled sided runner will allow for you to fill the pillow without having to buy additional fabric to cover the back side. The runner with the bird is similar to the one I bought, with the decoration at the end.
- runner with the decor at each end
- doubled sided runner
- closing for the deer pillow with velcro
This is how I made 3 deer theme pillows and the materials I used:
- One double-sided runner
- Sewing machine
- Batting or a pillow insert
- 6 inches of garment Velcro divided by 2
- one 14 inches zipper
- hot glue
- Measure, cut, sew and stuff.
Measure the desired length for the pillow and cut, the deer head are 17×13. I chose to cut 3 inches above the deer head to centralize the deer face on the pillow, and allowing 1 inch for the closing.
The deer pillows were closed by adding Velcro on the closing side and hand sewing 4 points at the closing. A decorative red seam was added for decor and to match the deer nose.
- closing for the deer pillow with velcro
- red seams for decor
For the bigger rectangular pillow (22 x 13 inches wide) I used the piece of fabric that remained after I cut the ends of the runner with the deer face. I traced and cut (old school way) a deer figure over a piece of paper. Saw together 6 pieces of plaid ribbon to do the body of the deer. Pin the figure to the ribbon and cut the body.
- saw the ribbon together
- remain piece from runner after cutting the ends
- deer body traced and ready to cut
hen I placed the cut deer figure on the pillow face with hot glue. For the closing of this one, I chose to add a zipper. The placement of the zipper was a little bit difficult, I’m not very good at sewing zippers and took me a while to do it, but this is the best way to remove the pillow cover just in case you need to wash it or change it.
This is my first Christmas project this year, and I’m working in another one, simple and thrifty too.
