Today, I am presenting my first piece of furniture painted with Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co.’s paints or OFMP. I started with this small beat-up desk, that I got at a church sale for dirt cheap.
I decided to give it a makeover using OFMP paints; these are true milk paints, safe, non-toxic, and all natural.
After a good deep clean with soup and water, the desk was left to air dry, while I started mixing the paint. For color, I chose Safe Paint in Pitch-Black. A cup of paint was mixed with a cup and 1/4 of water for the first coat.
To be honest, I was a little scared after applying the first coat. It did not look black at all, and it was drying in a deep grey tone as seen below.
To make the paint look darker, I added a tablespoon of the Pitch Black powder to 1/2 cup of the previously mixed paint. This definitely appeased me, as the result was the darker tone I was looking for. After 2 hrs. and with the first coat completely dry, a second coat was applied.
Before the piece dried completely, I distressed it a little bit with a wet cloth. This gives the piece its antique charm. After the second coat was applied and dried, the Acriglaze was applied.
This was my first time using milk paint, and it has been a learning experience that I’ve enjoyed. I hope this will inspire you to try these fantastic paints from Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co.!!
